The San Jose Earthquakes look to claim their first win since last month’s opener as it faces the Philadelphia Union (1-1-1) in Philly on Saturday.
Although San Jose (1-2) came out of the gates hot against NYC FC last weekend with a Yeferson Quintana header in the third minute, it wasn’t enough to come out on top against the east-coast club.
New York came back in the second half to pull off the 2-1 win, giving the ‘Quakes their second-straight loss.
Philadelphia similar to San Jose, won their opener in March, but are coming off a loss, as the Union fell to the Colorado Rapids, 3-0.
The team has not found the back of the net since the March 3 season opener, and has scored just twice in all three games combined this year.
San Jose on the other hand, also has a -1 goal differential, but has scored six goals this season.
Philadelphia’s defense, although young, has been impressive.
The team played with a the youngest backline ever in MLS history with an average age of 20.75 between the four players, Matt Real being the youngest at 18.
Contrast that with the ‘Quakes’ back four and the average age is 28.5.
There is not doubt that both teams need a point.
Both of the team’s the Earthquakes have lost to are currently conference leaders, so playing the Union, a team that is also trying to find an identity, should be interesting for San Jose.
The match starts 4 p.m.
