For the second game in a row, San Jose State baseball gave up double-digit hits in a 7-3 non-conference loss to UC Davis.
The Spartans have now lost nine of their last 10 road contests, and are 1-4 against Big West schools following Tuesday’s Northern California showdown.
SJSU (10-17, 3-8 MW) was held scoreless through five innings behind UC Davis (8-15, 1-2 BW) junior pitcher Blake Hannah, who gave up just one hit after facing 18 batters en route to his first win.
Down 3-0 heading into the sixth, senior Shane Timmons singled to shortstop with runners at the corners and freshman Connor Konishi scored to make it 3-1.
With a manageable deficit, the Spartans left two runners on base and in turn led to a four-run fury for the Aggies at the bottom of the inning.
Stolen bases for UC Davis’ Tanner Murray and Alex Aguiar put them in scoring position with two outs. The duo would score as senior Brad Pluschkell doubled down the infield line to give the Aggies a 7-1 lead.
Timmons and fellow senior Chris Williams had consecutive RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning to make it 7-3, but the Spartans couldn’t get enough offense.
Pitching once again was a big question mark for SJSU as it used 10 different pitchers.
Junior pitcher Tevin Cadola fell to 0-2 on the season.
The Spartans return to conference action with a home series against Nevada beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
