San Jose State baseball returns home from a rough weekend in Santa Barbara with a non-conference game against Saint Mary’s Tuesday night.
The Spartans (9-13, 2-6 MW) were outscored by UC Santa Barbara over the weekend by 18 runs in three games.
Playing on in their home park has proven to be successful for SJSU this season as it has won seven of its 13 games at Municipal Stadium.
Pitching has been a struggle in recent games for SJSU, however.
The team went through five of its pitchers in game 3 against the Gauchos. Starter freshman Nicholas Morales only pitched 2.2 innings in his outing giving up five runs. The pitching staff itself hit three batters and had eight walks.
Senior outfielder Brett Bautista tops all Spartans and ranks third in the nation for qualified hitters with his .478 batting average, while senior Shane Timmons has 19 RBIs.
The Gaels (12-8) had a decent weekend against Santa Clara, going 2-1 in the series.
Sophomore outfielder Joe Vranesh heads Saint Mary’s with a .309 average and seven RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher Ken Waldichuk is 4-1 on the season and recorded the team’s second shutout with the help of sophomore pitcher Andrew Hansen on Sunday.
First pitch is tonight at 5 p.m.
