Ontario downs Barracuda in OT thriller

The San Jose Barracuda were able to earn a point in their 5-4 overtime loss to the Ontario Reign, but still look for their first road victory since February 2nd.

At the end of the first period the Barracuda found themselves in a 2-0 hole. They were able to respond by putting up three goals in the second period to Ontario’s one, which made it a 3-3 tie headed into the final period.

San Jose defenseman Nick DeSimone scored seven minutes into the third period, giving the Barracuda momentum to try and maintain the lead.  With 7:24 left in the third Ontario left winger Austin Wagner scored to tie the game at four and eventually force a 3-on-3 overtime.

It didn’t take long to decide who took the game, as a minute into OT, Brett Sutter skated right down the middle and slapped a backhander past Barracuda goalie Antoine Bibeau.

With the loss the Barracuda are now 9-12-5 on the road.

The Barracuda will continue their division road trip as they face the first place team in the Pacific Division, the Tucson Roadrunners next.

The first game against the roadrunners is set for March 20 at 7:05 p.m.
