Earthquakes fall in Kansas City, now 1-1 on the year

The San Jose Earthquakes  lost their first match of the season on the road in Kansas City 3-2.

In the first round of MLS San Jose won 3-2 against Minnesota United. Today the result was the same, but in the opposite direction to KC.

The first goal of the game came via penalty. Sporting’s Ilie Sanchez made no mistakes from 11 meters and gave Kansas City the in the 25th minute.

San Jose fought back and before halftime as Vako Quazaishvili scored the equalizer making it 1-1.

Kansas City had most of the possession and shots on goal in the first half and it was no different for the next 45 minutes.

In the 56th minute, Graham Zusi gave Kansas the lead 2-1 and 12 minutes later Felipe Gutierrez added another for his third goal of the season.

San Jose tried their best to come back, but the reduction goal came too late.

Just as the referee showed the sign of four minutes of stoppage time Chris Wondolowski scored Earthquakes second of the match making it 3-2 after a nice cross form Magnus Eriksson.

Kansas however, kept its goal clear over the last few minutes of stoppage time and when the referee blew his whistle one last time, Kansas had taken their second straight win, improving to 3-1 on the year.

For the Earthquakes, the result gives the team its first loss of the season as they left KC empty handed.

Next week, the Earthquakes face New York City FC at Avaya stadium. A tough match for San Jose as New York is unbeaten.
