Spartans look for pre-tournament momentum in season finale at Air Force

With its first conference win under its belt, San Jose State men’s basketball looks to keep the gears going against Air Force Saturday.

The Spartans (4-25,1-16 MW) pulled off a two-point win in their last home game of the season Wednesday celebrating seniors Jalen James and junior Ryan Singer for their Senior Night.

With it being the last home game of the regular season, Air Force (11-18, 5-12 MW) will be celebrating four seniors of its own: guards CJ Siples, Jacob Van, Trevor Lyons and center Frank Toohey.

A Spartan to keep an eye on is junior Ryan Welage. In Wednesday night’s game against Utah State, Welage became the No. 1 three-point scorer of all-time for SJSU with his 154th made three of his career.

Another player to look out for is sophomore guard Isaiah Nichols. During the last two games, Nichols has had an increased role off the bench including a three-point splash that put the Spartans ahead with under a minute to play against the Aggies.

Keith Fisher also should be under a spotlight, as the redshirt freshman has had double-doubles in eight of the last 12 games for SJSU.

The Falcons only have one player averaging double digits in scoring, 6-foot-6 sophomore Lavelle Scottie, who’s averaging 12 points per game. However, four players including Scottie (11) — Ryan Swan (19), Pervis Louder (12) and Van (14) — finished in double figures in the last meeting on Jan. 13 against the Spartans.

SJSU will aim to even up the season series with tip-off  at 1 p.m. in Colorado Springs.
