San Jose State gymnastics fell to the UC Davis Aggies for the second time this season, 194.525-193.450, at the Event Center Saturday night.
UC Davis now leads San Jose State, 2-1.
While not their best overall team score of the year, the Spartans edged-out the Aggies in the vault event, 48.62-48.450 and the floor event, 48.975-48.950.
The highlight of the night was junior Ellie Pascoe-Long hitting the teams highest floor event and her career-high of 9.9, winning the vault.
However, the bar event proved to be a challenge for the Spartans despite senior Kaitlin Won securing the title with a 9.850. SJSU ended with a 47.125, marking its lowest score of the season. Pascoe-Long took an unexpected fall during her bar event, landing her a score of 8.10.
“I just have to put it in the past. Floor is one of my strongest events, so I just told myself I’m onto a new event, and I know I’m going to hit this floor routine,” said Pascoe-Long.
SJSU scored a 48.975 on the floor event, topping the Aggies.
“Our floor went really well today,” senior Kaitlin Won said. “I was really excited about that, and our beam group, after having a rough weekend last weekend, we really pulled it together and had a good day together.”
In the beam event, the Spartans came close to the Aggies, 48.850-48.725, with a consistent individual score averaging 9.600.
“The scores will be up, the scores will be down, and you can’t control that, but you can control what you do,” head coach Wayne Wright said.
Though the team lost, Wright was proud with the way the team fought.
SJSU will next welcome Seattle Pacific, Central Michigan and Air Force on March 4 at 2 p.m. at the Event Center.
