San Jose State men’s basketball (3-22, 0-14 MW) travels to Reno to face the Mountain West’s top ranked team and the nation’s No. 20 Nevada (23-5, 12-2 MW).
SJSU is stuck in a 14-game losing streak but the team has shown shines of growth on the road lately.
Freshman Keith Fisher III has increased his career-high in scoring twice in the team’s two most recent games. He is also averaging 8.6 rebounds per game in the last five games.
Junior Ryan Welage is three treys away from being SJSU’s all-time three-pointers made leader, taking the throne from Tim Pierce.
The Spartans are 1-18 in the last 19 meetings against the Wolf Pack with the last win against Nevada coming in 2014.
If the Spartans want any chance of keeping up with the Wolf Pack, defense is the key.
San Jose State played one of its best defensive games in the last meeting with Nevada. SJSU was winning in the first half, but slowed down after halftime resulting in a 71-54 loss.
Going into Wednesday’s game, the Spartans have to become a second-half team, something that has not been put on display this season at all.
The ball goes up at 7 p.m.
