Spartans travel to face conference-leading Cowgirls

San Jose State women’s basketball (6-13, 3-5 MW) will try to recover from its worst conference loss of the season as it travels to Laramie to face the Mountain West’s best Wyoming Cowgirls (13-5, 6-1 MW).

Sophomore guard Analyss Benally has a chance to be a part of history as she’s three 3-pointers away from tying the program’s sophomore single-season record of 47.

The record was set by Kari Steele in 1994-95, according to SJSU Athletics.

Benally’s 3-point average of 2.6 per game in conference games, alongside leading scorer Taylor Turney’s 14.5 points per game will play a role in getting the Spartans back on track.

However, it won’t be easy facing a team that dominates on their home court.

Wyoming is perfect with an 8-0 record, which includes a 3-0 record in conference play at the Arena-Auditorium. Senior guard Liv Roberts, who’s listed as 5-foot-11, leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 12.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

The Spartans have a slight advantage over the Cowgirls on defense as they have the edge in rebounds, steals and blocks per game, but when it comes to points per game allowed, that’s a different story.

Wyoming is only allowing its opponents to average 55.2 points per game while you can expect to hit the 80-mark against SJSU as they are giving up 80.7 points per conference contest.

Tipoff in Wyoming is scheduled for 1 p.m.
