Everything comes in threes and for San Jose State gymnastics, and three just happens to be the amount of times it competes in a row against Sacramento State.
The Spartans are two-for-two against the Hornets this season, but are looking to beat Sac State again, this time in their own territory, their first home event of the season.
The Hornets may have been the 2014 and 2016 Mountain Pacific West Champions, but the reigning Spartans have already topped Sac State in almost every event during their first two face-offs.
This week, senior Katie Won was named MPSF gymnast for her All-Around performance (39.075) against Sacramento State and Utah State the week prior, and junior Ellie Pascoe-Long won MPSF Specialist of the week for first place in vault and floor.
SJSU may have some competition from Caitlin Soliwoda placed second behind Won with a 38.957 on the all-around. Her performance was enough to beat last season’s MPSF Freshman of the Year, Taylor Chan (38.700), who just started competing in the all-around this season.
Jackie Sampson is one to watch on uneven bars — the one event that SJSU has not been shining in.
Between the beam, vault and floor, the Spartans look to hype up the Event Center and add to their first place titles Friday night at 7 p.m.
