No. 11 San Jose State men’s water polo (3-1, 0-0 WCC) opened the Princeton Invitational with a win Friday, defeating Wagner (1-6, 0-0 MAWPC), 18-6, in Princeton, N.J.
Sophomore utility player Sam Keightley led the Spartans’ offensive attack, recording a game-high 4 goals against Wagner to lead the Spartans to the strong victory.
SJSU controlled the game offensively, creating opportunities through its physical play.
The Spartans drew more kickouts than Wagner, giving SJSU additional opportunities to generate offense and maintain pressure on the Seahawks’ defense.
The Spartans’ balanced attack also allowed multiple players to contribute to the scoresheet.
Sam Keightley set the pace against Wagner with 4 goals, while junior driver Zalan Hegedus, sophomore driver Bence Kristok and junior utility player Samu Biros each added 2.
Senior center-forwards Péter Kolos Kohári and Giancarlo Marquez, senior driver Mitchell Keightley, sophomore center Liam Dodunski, freshman drivers Palmer Macbeth, and Aron Sárfalvi, Jack Elder and junior driver Zach Ramans each scored once.
In all, 11 different Spartans found the back of the net, leading to a strong scoring distributions
The Spartans will continue the Princeton Invitational against LIU at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
