The San Jose State women’s water polo (6-13, 0-5 MPSF) fell 13-4 to the Harvard Crimson (20-1, 4-1 CWPA) in tournament action.
SJSU struck first in the match when sophomore driver Sarah Woren scored the opening goal to give the Spartans an early 1–0 lead.
Harvard responded quickly and began to build momentum offensively, scoring several unanswered goals to take control of the match.
Despite the deficit, SJSU continued to push offensively and finished the game with 20 total shots, while Harvard recorded 25.
Junior attacker Darcy Spark led the Spartans’ attack, taking four shots and converting two goals to pace the team offensively.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Tatianna Raffin helped keep the Spartans competitive with several key stops in the cage.
Raffin finished the contest with seven saves, denying multiple Harvard scoring chances throughout the match.
Harvard maintained its offensive pressure across all four quarters, capitalizing on scoring opportunities to extend its lead.
SJSU continued battling through the final period, creating chances and maintaining defensive intensity despite the growing margin.
The Spartans showed determination after falling behind early, continuing to generate offensive looks and defensive stops while competing against a high-paced Harvard attack.
SJSU looks to build momentum and carry the lessons from the match into the remainder of the tournament.
The Spartans will play its last match against UC San Diego at 1:40 p.m. today at the Aztec Aquaplex in San Diego.
