The San Jose State softball team (2-10, 0-0 MW) was shutout  4-0 against Sacramento State (10-2, 0-0 BSC) in its second game of the Mustang Classic.

The loss comes after a 3-2 Spartan win earlier in the day over Manhattan that snapped their seven-game losing streak.

Freshman utility Norah Coulsell pitched for the first five innings. She allowed 11 hits off 77 pitches, and found the strike box 49 times.

The Hornets were mostly scoreless throughout the game. They reached home base twice in the second and fifth innings.

A hit through the left side of the field by senior infielder Jenna Birch opened the gate for junior first-base Malissa George to score their first run of the day.

Birch would go on to score the second run just two hits later.

The Hornets senior pitcher Kennedie Bacon allowed just four hits and pitched in all seven innings.

SJSU’s leader in runs on the season, senior infielder Ahmiya Noriega recorded one hit and one walk with both of her at bat opportunities.

“We just need to create some momentum, we just need to be better in every aspect, SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann, who was fresh off of her 100th win with the Spartans, said.
