The San Jose State women’s basketball season continues to spiral out of control after losing 96-62 to Boise State (17-5, 7-3 MW). This marks the Spartans 19th loss of the season, and the 11th game they’ve lost by 15 or more points.

The Spartans have yet to win a game on the road this season.

Redshirt senior guard Amira Brown was the most efficient scorer for the Spartans. In the first half she put up eight points on 50% shooting, sinking in two from beyond the arc. Brown finished with 20 points, and four rebounds.

The Broncos kept their foot on the gas all game. They galloped to an early 14-0 lead and never let up. The first quarter ended with a Boise 39-14 lead.

“They jumped on us from the start, the game was won and lost in the first quarter,” SJSU head coach Jonas Chatterton said.

The Spartans were out rebounded 13 to four, committed seven fouls and had eight turnovers, digging a deep grave from the get-go.

Senior forward Tatum Thompson led the way for Boise finishing with 28 points, on 70% from the field with 18 of those points coming from the first quarter.

BOI dominated the boards with 48 compared to SJSU’s 31. They also shot an efficient 50% from three-point range, compared to a rough 30%. The Spartans failed to sink in one shot from the arc in the fourth quarter.

The Spartans did snag six blocks, but a brutal 20 team turnovers made it hard to keep up.

Redshirt sophomore guard Maya Anderson, who leads the teams in points this season, had a slow first half but started to find her footing in the third quarter. Anderson put up 10 points, six rebounds and one assist.

The Spartans will return home to face the Fresno State Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
