The San Jose State women’s soccer (6-5-0, 3-1 MW) team five-game winning streak was snapped Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 shutout against the Wyoming Cowgirls (6-4-2, 2-1-1- MW).
Following a Wyoming corner kick, forward Alisha Bass poked the ball in the back of the net for the goal that would end the spartans winning streak.
The game was met with cold and snow which led to a slick and slippery pitch, accounting to the slow start as the teams combined for 15 fouls in the first half.
Dorthe Hoppius and Darriell Franklin led the Spartans in shots with two apiece . For Wyoming, Bass finished with four shots and Britteny Star with three.
Both teams were even in the shot column and finished with four shots on goal. SJSU goalie Paige Simoneau finished the game with three saves in her first Mountain West conference loss. The Cowgirls Georgia Rowntree played a stellar game, notching four saves in the shutout.
For the Cowgirls, the win may be considered a slight upset to some Mountain West fans as San Jose State came into the game riding a five-game win streak sitting on top of the conference while Wyoming placed seventh .
The Spartans will look to get back on track as they travel to San Diego State on Friday
