The women’s volleyball team is continuing their time on the road this weekend with their third and fourth conference play games, taking on the San Diego State University Aztecs on Thursday and the Fresno State Bulldogs on Saturday.
SJSU (9-4) is now 1-1 in its conference play this season after falling to the University of Nevada, Reno and defeating Air Force last week. At this point in the Mountain West conference, the Spartans are tied for fifth place with University of New Mexico and University of Wyoming.
The Aztecs are 6-9 this season and 0-2 in conference play. SDSU has 701 kills and 692 digs this season compared to SJSU’s 687 kills 725 digs. SDSU is currently 9th in the Mountain West conference and is on a two-game losing streak.
Junior middle blocker Deja Harris is someone the Spartans will have their hands full with. Leading her team in kills and blocks, the six-foot-2 athlete is the highest scorer for her team so far.
After playing in San Diego on Thursday, the Spartans head to Fresno for their second game of the week on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 5-9 this season and, like the Aztecs, are also 0-2 in conference play, 10th in the overall conference.
Fresno State junior outside hitter Taylor Slover has the most kills for the team this season with 166. Senior libero Jacqueline Hutcheson has 209 of the team’s 692 digs.
The game against SDSU starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday then the Spartans will head to Fresno State on Saturday to play at 1 p.m.
