The San Jose State men’s water polo team (3-0, 0-0 WCC) continued its winning ways with a dominant  22-10 victory over the University of La Verne (0-4, 0-0 SCIAC).

Their victory over the Leopards moves the Spartans to 3-0 at the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego.

Junior center Nathan Correia gave the Spartans a quick lead with a goal within the first minute of the match.

The Spartans entered the second half of the match leading 8-3 and continued adding to their lead, scoring seven goals in both the third and fourth period.

“A really good start to the season,” head coach Gabor Sarusi said. “(We’re) really happy about the wins.”

Junior driver Michael Minera and freshman utility man Sam Keightley tied for most goals scored in the match for the Spartans, both ending with four goals each.

Sam, brother of junior utility man Mitchell Keightley, now leads the team in goals scored with a total of eight scored in the Spartans last three games.

Out of 13 teams participating in this year’s Triton Invitational, San Jose State and USC remain the only teams without a loss. They will face off against each other tomorrow.

“That should be a good test for us, (we’re) looking forward to playing against them,” Sarusi said. “We haven’t seen them since the NCAA quarterfinals two years ago.”

Sarusi referred to the 2023 NCAA Championship quarterfinal where the USC men’s team defeated SJSU 18-10.

SJSU will face off against them at 9:20 a.m. Sunday in the UCSD Canyonview Aquatic Center.
