San Jose State redshirt senior goalkeeper Edgar Guerra was named the Western Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week after helping the Spartans with a 2-0 record to start the season, their first since 2010.
Guerra recorded his first clean sheet of the season in a 2-0 win against Cal Poly, finishing with five saves. In the 2-1 comeback win against St. Mary’s, Guerra had three more saves. He made a key stop to set up the winning goal for SJSU in the final minute.
In both games, the Spartan goalkeeper averaged four saves per game. This marks the first player of the week award for the goalkeeper since joining SJSU in 2024.
He started 15 games for the Spartans, recording four shout-outs in the 2024 season. In his collegiate career, he had eight clean sheets, 12 wins and 105 saves.
The Spartans will look to build on their early momentum with Guerra in goal against CSU Bakersfield Friday, Aug 29th, 7 p.m. in Bakersfield
