San Jose State women’s golf finished out its season after competing across three days at the Gold Canyon Regional at the Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona.

The team finished day three in seventh place out of 12 teams but made steady progress throughout the days to end up finishing in that position.

Sophomore Moa Andersson led the team on day one, shooting a 2-over-par 74.

However, head coach Dana Dormann remained focused on how the team can improve heading into day two.

“A little bit of a slow start for us today,” Dormann said on X. “We’re gonna try and figure this course out, make a few more puts tomorrow.”

Day two was highlighted by senior Nicola Kaminski as she shot her best round of the season with a 4-under-par 68.

Kaminski jumped 32 places in the individual standings as she moved to a tie for 16th place.

She began her day with a birdie, par, par and then an eagle and was one of only four players to make an eagle in the first two rounds.

The Spartans ended day two in eighth place.

Senior Lucia Lopez Ortega led the Spartans on the final day of regionals with a 2-under-par 70 and finished in 33rd place on the individual leaderboard.

Lopez Ortega finished with eight consecutive pars on the front and back nine as well as birdying holes nine and eighteen, which was her last collegiate hole.

“Everybody played well today, especially proud of Lucia [Lopez Ortega], she’s been our leader all year long and is a big reason why we made it here in the first place,” Dormann said.

Kaminski recorded her best three rounds of the season as she finished regionals with a 1-over-par 73 and in a tie for 14th place in what was also her last collegiate tournament.

The Spartans finished in seventh in the team standings, narrowly missing out on fifth place and a spot at nationals.
