The San Jose State Track and Field teams’ regular season came to a close this past weekend as they competed in the Fresno State Invitational.
The Spartans had multiple first-place finishes and personal bests to help gain some momentum heading into the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
“You wanna see people starting to round into shape towards the end of the season, and that’s exactly what this meet was intended to do,” Charles Ryan, the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, said.
To start, junior Sky Hagan placed first in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.22. This time also marked her personal best in the 100-meter hurdles.
Junior Alyssa Bean won the women’s 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 23.44.
Senior Emilia Sjostrand continues her dominance of the women’s triple jump as she finished first with a distance of 13.08 meters.
Moving to the men’s side, freshman Myles McFarland and sophomore Trey Ciccio finished first and second in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with times of 4.19 and 14.51, respectively.
Junior Christopher Coats and junior Cameron Tarver finished first and second in the men’s 200-meter dash with times of 20.71 and 20.89, respectively.
Several Spartans also shinned in the field events. Junior Eve Divinity scored first in the Women’s long jump with a distance of 6.09-meters. Freshman Deshawn Banks took first in the men’s high jump with a jump of 2.04 meters and scored second place and a personal best in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.24 meters.
With the strong close-out to the regular season, the Spartans will head back to San Jose to finalize their squad for the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place May 15-17 in Clovis, California at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
