San Jose State baseball (19-15, 7-6 MW) scored many runs against Mountain West rival Nevada (19-14, 7-6 MW) winning 10-5.

The Spartans got off to a hot start, building the early three-run advantage in the top of the second.

Runs kept coming for San Jose, scoring two runs in the third and putting up another three runs in the sixth.

“I thought we played really well offensively,” head coach Brad Sanfilippo said. “We had eight out of nine leadoff runners on.”

SJSU had Nevada’s number on offense, as they had 15 hits and 10 RBIs, while the Wolf Pack had seven hits and five RBIs.

Spartans redshirt senior Jeriah Lewis had a stellar offensive performance, recording a game-high four hits, three runs and two home runs.

SJSU had ten players record a hit, while Nevada had five.

Redshirt senior Zach Tallerman joined the hitting party, recording two hits and two runs.

The Spartans also went through two pitchers, but the switch paid off. Right-handed pitcher Nolan George replaced right-hand pitcher Kyle Calzadiaz in the fourth inning and ended the performance by allowing just one run.

“Nolan George was kind of the story tonight,” Sanfilippo said. “Coming to relief and just doing a heck of a job of getting us home with a lead, he pitched really well.”

George pitched five innings while throwing just 64 pitches.

The Spartans are back tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. in Don Weir Field at Peccole Park against Nevada, looking to win the season series.
