A slow offensive game for the Spartans (16-10) led to a tough loss against Fresno State (11-14) in a final score of 13-3 on March 28.
San Jose finished with a total of 7 hits and was not able to compete with Fresno State’s 17. Junior Rocco Caballero led offensively with one run, hit, and RBI.
The Spartans were able to use their extensive bullpen and pitching staff using five pitchers.
With four no score innings this game, the Bulldogs got their lead and kept it from the jump but scored five times in the 4th shutting the Spartans down.
Senior Alex Fernandes hit a triple and scored a run to lead the San José State baseball team.
“We just got beat in all phases of the game,” Coach Brad Sanfilippo said after the tough loss.
Of the next two games in the three game series, the Spartans took a 2-1 win March 29 and a 4-2 loss March 30.
They will next face Fresno State tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. in Reno.
