San Jose State softball (12-13) won 12-3 against University of New Mexico (14-12-1) on Friday.
This game also marked the start of Mountain West play for SJSU.
The Spartans had 12 runs, 11 hits, and one error. The Lobos only had three runs, three hits, and zero errors.
At the start both defenses stayed strong not allowing any of each other’s offenses to gain momentum.
The Spartans picked up momentum in the third inning where freshmen Taylor Peacock, juniors Ahmiya Noriega, Shay McDowell, and seniors Aneesa Almaguer and Taylor Squires all scored.
During that inning New Mexico switched pitchers three times to try to slow SJSU’s offense.
However, the Lobos did not hesitate to challenge the Spartan’s defense by scoring three runs in the third inning.
In the fifth inning senior Aubrie Thomas had a home run to the right field.
The Spartans’ offense held strong in the fifth inning as they had six total runs and five hits.
Five of the runs in the end of the fifth inning for the Spartans came from Noriega, Peacock, junior Reina Zermeno, McDowell, and freshmen Gigi Ortega.
