San Jose State women’s tennis (10-1, 1-0 MW) continued its great start to the season in a dominant 4-1 win against Utah State (5-6, 0-1 MW) in Logan, Utah.
SJSU sophomore Cheuk Ying Shek and freshman Emma Fantousis went undefeated in their doubles and singles matches.
After winning Mountain West Player of the Week, Ying Shek defeated Utah State’s junior Olivia Halvorsen in both sets, 6-1, 6-4.
This singles victory gives Ying Shek a four-match win streak and puts her at 9-1 in singles play this season.
Spartans sophomore Duru Durgun took a close singles win against Aggies senior Indya Nespor, 6-3, 7-5.
In the doubles competition, SJSU freshman Soledad Fayos Capilla and Fantousis beat Utah State’s freshman Natalie Paterova and Maria Paula Ramos Garcia, 6-4.
This win put Fayos Capilla and Fantousis at a 4-1 record in doubles play.
Fantousis grabbed the Spartans’ final point by winning her singles match 6-3 in both sets.
According to the Spartans athletic website, the Spartans’ 10-1 record is their best start to a season since the 2020-21 season when they won their first 14 games.
The Spartans will have a quick turnaround as they will face Boise State, scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. at Spartans Tennis Complex.
