San Jose State Baseball ( 8-3) suffered a 3-7 loss to San Francisco (6-6) in the final game of their series between both teams. SJSU still cliched the series, winning two games of the three-game set.
Errors and walks were big factors in today’s loss. Five errors were made today, while six walks were allowed.
Despite the loss, SJSU Pitcher Nolan George had five strikeouts in four innings pitched, allowing one run in that span.
“[We] didn’t play our best baseball today. probably played our worst game today.” Said head coach Brad Sanfilippo, “When you don’t take care of the baseball and give a lot of stuff away, it’s hard to win against quality people.”
Offensively, three runs were scored, with some notable moments. Zach Chamizo hit a home run in the first inning, bringing his season total to two. The home run was also the ninth for the Spartans this season.
SJSU right fielder Alex Fernandes went 2-for-3 in the game with an RBI, a double, and a walk. This marked his fifth multi-hit game of the season, leading the team. Fernandes’ double in the third inning allowed third baseman Drew Giannini to score.
In the eighth inning, a Dons pitching error allowed Fernandes to advance to third, leading SJSU first baseman Zach Tallerman to score a run.
