An all-around performance propelled San Jose State (11-6) to a 22-8 dominant win against Cal State Monterey Bay (3-11) in Seaside, Calif.
Despite adversity in the second quarter, the Spartans outscored the Otters 12-1 in the second half.
“I’m really happy with the way we responded in the second half of the game,” SJSU head coach Beth Harberts said in a video posted on X.
After allowing six goals in the second quarter SJSU went on a run to start the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals.
SJSU closed the game against Cal State Monterey Bay with an emphatic 7-0 fourth quarter.
Sophomore driver Darcy Spark led the Spartans with five goals and three assists, while sophomore utility player Emma Ruzic added three goals and five assists.
SJSU’s defensive tenacity was on display throughout this game.
Junior goalkeeper Tatianna Raffin had 13 saves and a 61.9% save percentage.
In a collective effort, the Spartans accumulated nine steals in the win.
The Spartans will begin conference play next week and look to extend their winning streak against California, which is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in San Jose.
