San Jose State lost 6-3 in an exciting Loyola Marymount comeback win, capitalizing on clutch hits and SJSU errors.
LMU got the lead during the sixth inning after a walk and a sacrificial bunt that led to an SJSU error that gave LMU their first lead.
SJSU had four timely errors on the night that led to the loss.
SJSU broke the even score in the third inning when they got a base runner on and then Junior infielder Ahmiya Noriega hit a home run to center field. SJSU took an early 2-0 lead.
LMU could not respond in the fourth inning, and SJSU extended the lead to 3-0 after Freshman catcher Sarah Deplitch had a solo home run to left field.
LMU bats finally came alive in the fifth inning, starting with a clutch double play to center by outfielder Cristina Jones. During the following at bats Justine Lambert and Sydney Poole delivered back to back RBI’s. The game was tied.
SJSU gifted LMU two more runs, first hitting a batter with bases loaded and then allowing a wild pitch that brought another run across the plate. It was 6-3 LMU.
SJSU walked the next batter then LMU slammed their final RBI of the inning, which tied the game up.
The Spartans could not respond, being shut out in the final two innings.
SJSU head coach Taylor Lohmann reflected on yesterday’s loss.
“We had three big early home runs against LMU,” Lohmann said. “But (we) just couldn’t take care of the ball on defense.”
