SJSU women’s water polo wins against Brown University

No. 19 San Jose State Women’s Water Polo (8-6) is now on a four game win streak after beating No. 25 Brown University (3-4) 9-8 on Saturday. 

This was the Spartans’ second match playing in the Bronco Invitational. 

Both teams stayed strong on offense with each getting 21 shots.  

SJSU senior goalkeeper Gracie Smith, had a total of nine saves. 

While top two scorers were drivers sophomore Darcy Spark with five goals and freshman Sarah Woren with two goals. 

In the first and second periods of the game SJSU led with goal scoring with a total of seven goals. 

During one of Woren’s shot to the back, goalkeeper Smith had an assist with helping them score.  

SJSU had over ten exclusions while Brown had only seven.

One exclusion from SJSU freshman Jessica Ross led to the Bears being able to score off a shot from Brown freshman Ava Schoening

Brown came out with over 11 steals as SJSU only had seven.  

The Spartans received a penalty in the fourth period that could’ve changed the game. Smith managed to stop the five-meter penalty shot. 

SJSU will face University of the Pacific at 3:15 p.m. today at the Sullivan Aquatic Center in Santa Clara.
