San Jose State football announced a two-game series with fellow Bay Area FBS program California on Thursday morning.
The Spartans and Bears are scheduled to face off Sept. 9, 2028 at California Memorial Stadium and Sept. 13, 2031 at CEFCU Stadium.
“It has been over three decades since we played the Golden Bears, and I know our fans will be excited to see this Bay Area rivalry,” SJSU athletic director Jeff Konya said in a press release.
Cal has won the previous nine games and is 27-6 in the series all time.
The two universities last met on Sept. 7, 1996 in San Jose which saw the Bears win 45-25.
SJSU’s last victory over Cal was Sept. 12, 1987 in Berkeley. The Spartans won 27-25.
Konya has previously hinted at the series.
“We’ve had some conversations with a lot of institutions trying to shore up our schedule and that includes our friends in Berkeley,” Konya said to the Mercury News in November.
The Spartans will play four home non-conference games for the first time in 2031, hosting Cal, Chattanooga, Rice and Washinton State.
