SJSU women’s swim and dive earns two wins; falls short to UC Davis

San Jose State senior Ellie Shorten and sophomore Vilma Lindberg both won events at a dual meet against UC Davis. 

Shorten won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.40 and Lindberg won the 200-yard breaststroke  with a time of 2:18.26 

However, the Spartans fell short to the Aggies 208-84 across their events. 

The Spartans did win their first event of the day which was the 200m medley with a time of 1:43.98. The winning team consisted of Shorten, Lindberg, Veronica Gourley and Lais Gasparini e Silva.

Silva also finished second in the 50m freestyle event with a time of 23.81.

Despite losing the match, SJSU either won, were on the podium, or both 15 times across the 15 events. 

Jenna Jagielski made her season debut on the 1-meter dive and finished third in the process with a score of 239.85. 

“It was nice getting Jenna on the board for her first diving competition,” SJSU head coach Sage Hopkins said. 

The Spartans will travel to the University of Houston for the Houston Invitational, which is scheduled for Nov. 20-22.
