San Jose State volleyball (11-3, 5-3 MW) came into Colorado Springs to take a 3-1 victory over the Air Force Falcons (2-17, 1-7MW) on Oct. 19 to start a two-win streak in conference play.

With a match that seemingly could have gone either way between sets as a result of some serve setting errors and mistakes on defense, the Spartans were still able to put it away.

Despite the 3-1 win, the match was not easy for the Spartans as the Falcons came in dominating on offense.

“We didn’t play our best, but we gutted it out” SJSU head coach Todd Kress said.

Air Force junior outside hitter Ashley Bible as well as freshman standout Grace Fiaseu came in recording 12 kills each, along with senior outside hitter Ella Tschuor having 11 kills of her own.

Though Air Force recorded more kills according to the stat sheet of 50-40, the Spartans were able to take advantage of the Falcons 35 errors.

While Air Force had its own standouts offensively, SJSU had a couple of its own as well.

Senior outside hitter Blaire Fleming came in with 10 kills, as well as right-side hitter Brooke Bryant and outside hitter Naima Foster having nine kills of their own.

Senior setter Brooke Slusser played a major role for SJSU and the win against Air Force.

Though only recording five kills, Slusser was able to record nine digs, seven service aces, and an outstanding 31 assists to lead the Spartans to victory.

With a no contest against Utah State on Wednesday Oct. 23, the Spartans look forward to competing at the University of Nevada on Oct. 26 at noon at Virginia Street Gym.
