San Jose State women’s golf placed fourth of eleven teams at The Molly Collegiate Invitational held on Sept. 31 and Oct. 1st at the Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside Calif.
Junior Rebecca Gyllner led the way for the Spartans. She was tied for eighth place amongst solo golfers, finishing with an even score throughout all three rounds.
After finishing the first two rounds at a +9, senior Lucia Lopez Ortega finished strong in the final round, hitting two under par and finishing the tournament at +7.
Sophomore Moa Andersson had a similar outing as well, struggling the first two rounds hitting seven over par. She improved in her final round scoring a +2 and finishing at +9.
The Spartans showed their ability to keep fighting in the final round by hitting a 286, which was 14 less strokes than their previous round.
The solid round form SJSU bumped them up one spot to share the fourth place position with U.C. Davis.
“We didn’t play our best, but we had some fun at the end,” SJSU head coach Dana Dormann said. “Hopefully that’s the tide turning around for us and means good things for us.”
SJSU will set its eyes on the Stanford Intercollegiate that is scheduled for Oct. 18-20 at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
