San Jose State men’s golf finished seventh out of 15 teams at the Palouse Collegiate at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
SJSU finished the three-round tournament taking place Tuesday and Wednesday, 36-strokes behind winner Utah.
The Spartans as a team shot 284 for the whole tournament.
“We didn’t get the charge that we had hoped for, but we had some really great golf this week and we learned a lot,” SJSU head coach John Kennaday said in a video posted to the SJSU Athletics website.
Sophomore Keshav “KC” Mungali was the highest-placed Spartan, finishing in a five-way tie for 15th place at 7-under par. He reached the total thanks to three birdies on his final five holes.
Junior Avinash Iyer finished right behind Mungali in 20th place at 6-under par. He had four birdies in the final round.
Mungali and Iyer were the only two Spartans that finished the tournament in the top 20.
A total of three Spartans finished under par, including junior Xuan Luo who finished in 38th place with 1-under par.
“I think we learned some great lessons that we build on, each and every one of us,” Kennaday said.
SJSU’s next tournament is the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational hosted by Air Force, scheduled for Sept. 21-23 at Eisenhower Golf Course in Colorado Springs, Colo.
