San Jose State women’s golf finished ninth of 15 teams at the Folds of Honor Collegiate held on Sept. 9-11 at the American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven, Mich.

Senior Lucia Lopez Ortega and sophomore Moa Andersson paved the way for the Spartans, tied at 16th place together.

Andersson had a steady and consistent outing all three days, hitting two over par in the first two days and one over par in the final day.

A much different scenario unrolled for Lopez Ortega, however. She hit seven over par through two days, then had a surgical day three, finishing two under par to end her tournament.

She finished nine spots higher than she had previously in the first round.

After struggling in the first round, hitting a +8, senior Nicola Kaminski had a great recovery. She had four fewer strokes in round two and six less in round three.

That was the notable pattern for SJSU in the tournament, finishing strong to end.

As a team, they finished round three with 293 strokes, 13 less than the second round.

“We’ve gotten a lot of growth, lots of areas to work on,” SJSU head coach Dana Dormann said. “We’ll be coming off better and stronger for our next tournament.”

The Spartans will take on U.C. Berkeley at The Molly Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 30 in Seaside, Calif.
