The hot streak continues as San Jose State volleyball (5-0) remains undefeated after beating California Baptist (0-6) 3-0 on Sunday in the Hawkeye Invitational.
The Spartans ended the match on an 11-1 scoring run to win in straight sets.
“They just willed themselves to win,” SJSU head coach Todd Kress said. “They were a very player-driven team today, they gutted it out.”
SJSU has yet to have a match go to a fifth set this season.
The dominance of winning in three or four sets continued as the Spartans just wrapped up play in the Hawkeye Invitational.
Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Nayeli Ti’a led the team with 23 kills and 16 digs.
Senior right-side hitter Brooke Bryant had nine kills and one dig in the game.
Winning the first set 25-5, the Spartans were in a second-set slugfest with the Lancers trailing 24-22 before going on a 4-0 scoring run to win the set.
Kress likes where this team is headed.
“Just very proud of this team and where we’re headed,” Kress said. “Huge confidence boost for us this weekend.”
The Spartans’ next match is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday against Southern Utah at Leavey Center in Santa Clara, Calif., the first of two matches they play at the Santa Clara Tournament.
