San Jose State softball (14-25, 3-12 MW) suffered its worst loss of the season in a 16-0 blowout against Colorado State (25-15, 8-7 MW). This game was the first of a two-game, five inning doubleheader and nothing would go right for the Spartans.

“Just a rough weekend in Colorado,” head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “We just got to continue to work hard and we have 16 games left to put us in a better position.”

In game one San Jose State only was able to get four hits on the board compared to the Rams 13.

Junior pitcher Mia Reynolds (3-13) got the loss in game one as she would only pitch 2 2/3 innings and would give up seven runs on seven hits.

Game two would not fare any better for the Spartans. During the course of the doubleheader SJSU would lose 14-0 bringing the run differential to 30-0 across 10 innings.

The Spartans would be held to only one hit from graduate student infielder Korie Thomas.

Six of the Rams 14 runs would come in an explosive first inning which included a two-run homerun. The Rams would collect a total of 12 hits on the game.

The loss would go to freshman Alexis Toner (3-12) as she would only last 2/3 innings and six runs would come across to score during her time on the mound, five earned.

“(For the rest of the season) we have to come out scratch and fight and grab onto every opportunity we can moving forward.” Lohmann said.

The Spartans will look to bounce back against UNLV (27-15, 10-6 MW) in a three-game series starting at 6 p.m. on April 26 back home at Spartan Softball Stadium.
