San Jose State softball (13-20, 3-7 MW) ended its four-game losing streak with a 9-1 mercy-rule win on the road against Pacific (11-26, 1-1 WCC) in five innings.

SJSU didn’t score more than three runs in any game during its losing streak. But Wednesday’s game saw them score more runs than in any of those four games combined.

The Spartans had complete control scoring all nine runs in the first two innings, including seven in the second inning.

“Overall team effort. Great win for midweek,” SJSU softball head coach Tammy Lohmann said in a video posted to SJSU Athletics website.

SJSU started the game with three consecutive hits with one each from infielder Aubrie Thomas, sophomore Reina Zermeno and sophomore infielder Amiya Noriega.

Zermeno went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Noriega got SJSU a 2-0 lead with her two-run double in the first inning. She went 2-for-3 with two hits including a double and drove in two runs.

Thomas’ single drove in the Spartans’ first two runs of the second inning. This hit would ultimately spur a seven-run rally that helped them pull away. She was another player who had a perfect day at the plate going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Junior Mia Reynolds had a spectacular day on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing six hits, one run and walking two batters.

This big offensive explosion by the Spartans is much needed and they hope to carry momentum this going into their next series against San Diego State.
