San Jose State men’s golf finished 13th of 31 teams at The Goodwin held on March 28-30 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
Junior Zubair Firdaus was a standout performer for SJSU. He led the team on day one with a score of 69, 1-under par. Firdaus was the only Spartan to finish the first round under par.
The key to Firdaus’ success was consistency as each day his scores fluctuated by only one stroke.
The team rallied on day two with Firdaus continuing his strong performance to finish even for the round.
Firdaus maintained his steady performance into the final round, finishing one over and concluding the weekend in 11th place individually.
Firdaus’ finishing placement ties his best this season, following his success at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational where he finished tied for 11th again.
Senior Carl Corpus struggled throughout the three days of play.
Corpus finished 5-over par at the end of day one, signaling a challenging start to the tournament for him. Corpus improved on day two finishing 4-over par then going 3-over on day three.
The Goodwin marks the second consecutive tournament that Corpus has played poorly. This downturn follows his notable success at the Amer Ari Invitational, where he finished tied for second place.
The Spartans get ready to compete on home turf as they host the 77th Western Intercollegiate scheduled for April 15-17 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. This will be the Spartans’ last tournament before the Mountain West Championship.
