San Jose State women’s tennis improved its record to 7-1 Tuesday afternoon with a 4-0 win against University of San Francisco on the road.

The Spartans were able to secure the win in doubles play. This then led to three points from singles play.

“Clinched the doubles, good momentum going into singles,” SJSU head coach Chad Skorupka said. “We’re going to head home, [we have a] day off tomorrow and prepare for our match on Friday against Santa Clara.”

In doubles play, Jovana Babic and Carolina Millan won 6-3 while Rozalina Youseva and Duru Durgan won 6-1.

All the singles were won in straight sets.

It started off strong with Irena Muradyan winning both sets 6-1. Durgan took the momentum from the doubles win into her singles play, winning 6-1 and 6-2. Cheuk Ying Shek secured the 4-0 win with a final score of 6-3 and 6-1.

The three singles wins resulted in three unfinished matches. Babic, Millan and Youseva were the three left unfinished.

The Spartans continue to compete at a high level and work to improve their already impressive record.

Up next, SJSU women’s tennis is scheduled to play at the Spartan Tennis Complex to face-off against Santa Clara University on March 8 at noon.
