San Jose State (9-20, 2-14 MW) lost a close game against San Diego State (22-7, 11-5 MW) 72-64 stretching its losing streak to four games.
The charity stripe was SDSU’s best friend having 22 free throw attempts to SJSU’s two with 11 of those free throws coming from senior forward Jaedon LeDee.
This also contributed to his impressive 27-point double-double along with 11 rebounds.
“We just could not get LeDee under control,” SJSU head coach Tim Miles said in an X video posted to SJSU athletics. “That ultimately was the end for us.”
Despite losing, the Spartans shot better than the Aztecs in every area except free throws. SJSU shot 50% from the line to San Diego State’s 77%.
The Spartans shot 44% from the field and 31% from three point range compared to the Aztecs 43% and 25%.
This was a hard-fought game nonetheless. LeDee just simply carried his team on his back and took them to the finish line.
With this game being fairly close in the first half, the Aztecs pulled away in the middle of the second half having a 17-point lead.
It is safe to say that the second half run and their numerous opportunities at the charity stripe contributed to their victory.
As for the Spartans, junior guard Myron Amey Jr. also recorded a double-double putting up 17 points and 10 boards. He also shot an efficient 5-9 from downtown.
Three other players on the Spartans put up double figures.
Senior forward Trey Anderson went for 14 along with freshman guard Latrell Davis’ 13 and junior guard Alvaro Cardenas’ 11.
With this win, the Aztecs remain third in Mountain West while the Spartans unfortunately hold the last spot.
SJSU will travel to Las Vegas to play UNLV this Saturday at 7 p.m. and conclude its two-game road trip and hopefully its losing streak as well.
