San Jose State women’s swim and dive team showed its strength in a 151-149 win against the Bulldogs.

The Spartans hosted Fresno State 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Spartan Recreation and Aquatics Center for senior day.

The dual meet will be the last home meet of the season for the Spartans before they head into the conference championship in three weeks.

“This meet is all about our last preparation going into the Mountain West Championships and the whole team stepping up to honor our seniors.” SJSU swim and dive head coach Sage Hopkins said.

Three Spartans were honored for senior day, including Reka Kovacs, Reagan Mathieson, and Alice Ciobanu

Kovacs ended the regular season swimming a pool record in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.61. Her previous personal best was a 4:59.14 in the event.

SJSU sophomore Ela Freiman swam a pool record of 4:18.60 in the 400m IM, improving from her previous time of 4:19.45.

Kovacs, Mathieson, and Ciobanu have been Mountain West Scholar Athletes throughout their careers at San Jose State.

Saturday’s meet marked the first competition of February for the Spartans since participating in the Bruin Diving Invitational in Los Angeles Jan. 12- Jan. 14. The annual Bruin invitational featured a diverse set of talented divers from 14 different programs, allowing the Spartans to prepare for championship season.

Last year, the Spartans finished eighth place in the Mountain West Swim and Dive Championship with 632.5 points.

The Spartan women’s swim and dive team will be traveling to the University of Houston for the 2024 Mountain West Championships Feb. 21- Feb. 24.
