On Thursday night, miscommunications made by SJSU resulted in its first home loss of the season. 10 service aces from Boise State led it to a 3-0 win over the Spartans, who have lost their last nine sets in a row.

“We got served off the court at times,” said SJSU head coach Todd Kress.

Coming into the match, Kress was adamant about getting a fast start after falling behind quickly on Saturday against Colorado State. While the Spartans didn’t fall behind at the beginning of sets, they fell behind four points in every set. SJSU was able to tie it each time but the mishaps on the back end became its downfall.

“That’s kinda been the story of our season, we gotta figure out a way to make that change,” said Kress.

Boise State isolated libero Alessia Buffagni and sent rockets to the backline that even the recent Mountain West defensive player of the week couldn’t handle. Buffagni finished as the team leader with 13 digs.

With four SJSU players not suited up, Letizia Cammillucci continued her offensive dominance this season with 16 kills.

SJSU won many big rallies with huge kills from Cammillucci and Nayeli Ti’a in the second set that forced Boise State into timeouts. While they created the necessary momentum to finish the job, the Spartans couldn’t execute when it mattered most.

“We work so hard, we’re always so close, we just need to make a few more adjustments,” said Cammillucci.

SJSU will continue its three-game homestand Saturday against Utah State at 1 p.m. at the Spartan Gym. The Aggies just defeated Boise State on Oct. 10 by a score of 3-1 and currently hold the best record in the Mountain West.

“We got our work cut out for us Saturday,” said Kress.
