SJSU women’s soccer lost at home against Colorado College in a 2-1 defeat that pushed the Spartans’ postseason opportunity out of reach.
SJSU (3-8-6, 1-5-3 MW) got on the scoreboard first after an amazing free kick goal from outside the box by senior Sabrina Weinman, marking her fourth goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
Colorado College (3-12-1, 3-6-0 MW) fought back and scored two goals thanks to senior Shalom Prince in the 73rd and 84th minute to give the Tigers the win on the road.
The Spartans unfortunately fell to last in the Mountain West Conference after this loss, and their chances of making the postseason are slim to none. The team has six conference points and needs a lot of help to obtain the sixth and last conference spot.
SJSU needs to win its last two games and hope for the remaining six teams ahead of the them to all lose out in order to grab that final spot. Getting big time goals from senior Weinman will play a huge role for the Spartans in this final stretch.
SJSU have a good chance of winning its final two games as they are playing the eight and tenth seed in the conference. They are set to match up against tenth place Air Force and eighth place Fresno State.
“What we have going forward for us is senior day on Sunday to at least get this last home game to end on a positive for our group,” said head coach Tina Estrada.
The Spartans play their final home game and honor their players on senior day on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m. against the Air Force Falcons at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
