In the second game of a double header, SJSU softball came up victorious against Cabrillo, 6-3.

SJSU striked first starting with a leadoff triple from freshman Reina Zermeno. Zermeno would then come in and score on a sac fly.

It was defensive mistakes that did Cabrillo in. Dropped balls in the outfield and mishandling grounders in the infield allowed the Spartans to capitalize.

However, it was not all SJSU in this game.

Cabrillo had a huge fourth inning where its first five batters all reached base safely and scored 3 runs to give them a 3-1 lead. A triple, two base hits and two walks were allowed by the Spartans.

San Jose would recapture the lead in the sixth inning, scoring two runs on a triple and three infield base hits.

Cabrillo would follow up in the top of the seventh with a three up, three down, giving SJSU the victory.

However, the teams would play on in the bottom of the seventh to give the players more reps as both teams are preparing for their respective seasons.

The Spartans would go on to score two more runs on an error from the Cabrillo shortstop and two more infield base hits.

In 2023, SJSU softball finished 27-30 and 11-11 in conference play. The Spartans will have five more games on the fall schedule before the season starts.

The Spartans next game will be against Cal State East Bay at 4.p.m on Oct. 27 at the Spartan Softball Stadium .
