San Jose State cross-country team excels at Pacific Collegiate Invitational

The San Jose State University’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams finished 4th and 6th at the Pacific Collegiate Invitational in Lodi, California. 

This is the team’s first meet since their four-week rest after the season opener at the USF Invitational on September 1st. 

During the men’s 8k, senior Amelio Chio carried the team, coming in with a time of 24:48. This comes after Chio set his lifetime personal record at the season-opener.

Sophomore Christopher Malone followed two minutes after, coming in at a time of 26:08. 

The SJSU men’s team ranked fourth overall with a total of 114 points, trailing 16 points behind Sacramento State. 

In the women’s 6k, freshman Amanda Challburg led the team and finished 21st overall coming in at a time of 22:27. This is seven seconds slower than her season-opening time of 22:20.

SJSU sophomore Constance O’Neal broke her lifetime personal record by one second. O’Neal ran a 22:36 finishing 24th place overall. 

SJSU freshman Caitlin Chea came in with a time of 23:09 finishing 38th overall. This is a 40-second improvement from Chea’s USF invitational time of 23:49.

The SJSU women’s team ranked sixth overall with a total of 192 points.  

The next competition for the SJSU cross-country team is on October 6th at the SF Invitational, hosted by San Francisco State University at 4:15 p.m.
