SJSU women’s tennis (9-12 overall, 4-5 MW) was swept 4-0 by various Mountain West opponents in its final two games of the regular season.
SJSU vs. SDSU
The Spartans started their trip with a sweep by SDSU (14-7 overall, 7-3 MW) on Friday. The team was unable to win a match during singles, leading to their 4-0 loss.
In singles, junior Carolina Millan broke her two-game win streak with a (2-6, 3-6) loss.
Fifth-year Alba Pedrero Galindo and Millan were the sole winners of the match, defeating the Aztecs in doubles (6-0). The partners finish the season with a 5-5 record together.
SJSU vs. UNLV
Unfortunately, the Spartans faced the same fate against UNLV (15-3 overall, 7-2 MW) on Saturday, losing 4-0.
In doubles, sophomore Olaya Iglesias and senior Lara Marco Mas suffered a narrow loss. Their match went to a tiebreaker game but resulted in them losing 6-7.
In singles, the team was quickly conquered by UNLV. The Spartans’ fatigue caught up with them as none of their live matches extended to three games.
Junior Irena Muradyan boasts the most wins in singles (15-9), but she lost to both SDSU and UNLV (3-6, 0-6). Her stellar performance against Air Force was missing in these last few matchups.
The weekend was filled with tougher matches for the team. UNLV is ranked second in the Mountain West and SDSU is the third seed. With these deficits, the Spartans will come off a 2-game losing streak for the Mountain West Tournament. The team will commence the season as the eighth seed and a .444 winning percentage against division opponents.
As the season comes to a close, SJSU women’s tennis will have four days to prepare for the anticipated Mountain West Tournament on April 26, which will be held in Las Vegas.
