The Spartans lost 6-5 to the Cal Poly Mustangs on a walk-off.

SJSU baseball (18-15) dropped a heartbreaker to Cal Poly (13-21) and rallied to tie things up after being down 5-1, but just could not hold on down to the wire.

Going into the top of the ninth, the Spartans trailed by one run when senior Jack Colette hit an two RBI single to tie the game up at five.

In the bottom of the ninth, junior pitcher Darren Jansen came into the game hoping to force extra innings.

Jansen walked the second batter for the Mustangs with one out in the inning.

As Jansen faced his last at bat in the inning, Jake Steels stole a base putting himself in scoring position for the Mustangs.

That stolen base won Cal Poly the game as Joe York hit a RBI double and bringing in the winning run.

Junior Robert Hamchuk hit an two run HR in the top of the seventh to get the Spartans back into the game trimming the lead to two runs.

On the mound for the Spartans was senior Aaron Eden, pitching for four innings giving up four hits and one run.

This loss brought SJSU baseball’s three game winning streak to an end.

The Spartans will now focus on their upcoming four game road trip against Fresno State.

The four game series will have a lot of impact on the conference standing as Fresno State is only two games back of the Spartans for first place in the Mountain West.
