The SJSU track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend in Southern Calif., competing in the Brian Clay Invitational and Mt. Sac Relays.

The Spartans got to work early on day one, as they secured a first-place finish in the men’s 400 meter relay. Freshman and former Mountain West Athlete of the Week Demaris Waters was joined by fellow freshmen Cameron Tarver and Jeremiah Walker, as well as senior Jalen Adams.

Walker and Coats joined freshman Jaden Smith and junior Harry Overstreet in the men’s 1600 meter dash finishing third overall with a time of 3:09.95.

The side dawning blue and gold wrapped up the Mt. Sac relays and picked up right where they left off to kick off at the Brian Clay Invitational.

Sophomore Osayi Omorodion captured first place in the women’s 100 meter hurdles with a mark of 13.63 seconds putting her at the third all-time fastest in program history.

Smith and Walker both finished with a time of 46.79 seconds in the men’s 400 meter dash as they tied for second place overall in the event.

Freshman Ajamu Reed won first place in the men’s long jump with a jump that measured 7.93 meters marking the third-longest jump in program history surpassing SJSU legend Tommie Smith.

SJSU also took first in the Women’s 400 meter relay as freshman Alyssa Bean and Sharli’e McCuller joined graduate student Sophie Liao and junior Gabby Spencer to secure the first-place finish.

Despite a long and grueling two-event weekend, the Spartans continue to improve at each event as the outdoor season begins to wrap up and the NCAA championships slowly approach.

SJSU track and field will look to end on a high note as they are set to travel to Fresno for its final event of the regular season. The Spartans will compete in the Fresno State Invitational on April 28 and 29.
