SJSU women’s water polo wins in double games

SJSU women’s water polo team (4-9) won the final two games of the UC Davis tournament in dominating fashion.

The first game on Sunday resulted in a 11-7 win for the Spartans over the California Baptist University (6-8) in Davis.

The Spartans scored two double scores in the first half of the game with the final half resulting in three points in the third quarter and four points in the fourth quarter.

The California Baptist University got double points in all quarters, but the third where they only got one.

The final game of the day was against California State University Monterey Bay where the Spartans won in dominating fashion 16-1 in Davis, California.

The Spartans got five points in the first quarter, two four point quarters in the second and fourth quarter and three points scored in the third quarter.

Graduate utility player Olga Descalzi scored a whopping five goals goals in the game with four of those goals coming in the first quarter.

Freshman Belena Rodriguez was second in scoring with three goals against Monterey.

The Spartans led in all categories against Monterey except exclusions where they were down 10-9.

SJSU finished with 35 shots and Monterey finished with 25 shots, the closest category both teams were in with San Jose leading.

Fifth year center Kylee Jansen led the Spartans in penalties with only two, Monterey led the whole game with penalties 10.

San Jose State played both teams for the first time this season with the next closest meeting being against California State University Monterey Bay on Feb. 19 at noon for the Santa Clara Tournament.

The SJSU women’s water polo team will play against Marist College on Feb. 18 at noon in Santa Clara to start the beginning of the Santa Clara tournament.
