Spartans softball still searching for first win of season at Mark Campbell Invitational

The Spartans looked for their first of the season at the Mark Campbell Invitational in Irvine from Feb. 10 to Feb 11. SJSU went 0-2 in the first day of the tournament.

In the first game, SJSU faced its Liberty Flames (0-2).

Sophomore Ashley Goard took the hill today. Goard struggled in the first inning as she have gave up 5 earned runs.

Sophomore Lacie Ham quickly came in to end the first inning. Ham would go onto finish the game with three earned runs and seven strikeouts.

Offensively, the Spartans couldn’t find a spark managing, the only two hits all game. Junior Mackenzie Hutchinson and freshman Ahmiya Noriega were the only players to get record hits as the Spartans fell to Liberty 0-8.

In the second game the Spartans (0-3) faced crosstown rival No.17 (1-1) Stanford Cardinals.

SJSU went through four different pitchers giving up 16 runs in the first two innings. Senior Jenessa Ullegue started on the mound for SJSU. Ullegue struggled throughout her time on the mound as the Spartans went through four different pitchers giving up 16 runs in the first two innings Nate’s note:

SJSU managed to have four hits this game, but didn’t have any runs to show for it. The Spartans were outscored 47-2 runs in their first four games.

SJSU softball will face the No.1 Oklahoma Sooners (3-0) Sunday morning to finish off the Mark Campbell Invitational.
